Dr. Brendan Nguyen operates Studio B, a small studio of piano students of diverse backgrounds, age groups, and all skill levels from beginners to working professionals. His teaching style is a trademark blend of patience, fun, and exceptionally high standards with the aim to produce skilled and expressive musicians. Before opening Studio B, he taught piano at University of California - San Diego, the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, and in masterclasses across the United States.
Brendan is also an award-winning performing artist, adjudicator, music director, associate instructor at the San Diego Piano Academy, and is Co-Artistic Director of the multi-disciplinary concert series Project [BLANK]. He has been awarded degrees from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music (BMus) and University of California - San Diego (MA, DMA).

Foundation
Beginner students develop a strong foundation not only to avoid developing bad habits that can take years to undo. Intermediate students are taken to the next level. Advanced students are trained to be competent professionals. Whether it is music theory or sight singing, every aspect of music can be covered thoroughly.
Most important of all, students are trained to developing self-reliance, responsibility, and discipline – traits foundational to a happy, fulfilled life-long love of music.
Expression
Music is a platform for human expression, whether it be emotional or one of ideas and concepts. This is integral to musical development. Fostering a love of music is built upon exploring these spaces.
Not every music educator is capable of connecting the theory of music to the human expressive level, which is what sets Studio B apart from other piano studios.
Adaptability
Everyone learns differently, so music lessons shouldn’t be cookie-cutter. All lessons and curricula are tailored individually to each student. Although private in-person lessons are sacred to music instruction, lessons and courses taught online can be equally effective for beginning, intermediate, and some advanced players. Lessons are offered to English-speaking students all over the world, not just in San Diego.

Brendan’s core passion of music making begins and ends with the piano. The vast and unending richness of the piano repertoire is a constant source of inspiration, and for which he possesses uncommon versatility as a champion of pieces old and new.
Brendan has performed and collaborated with some of the world’s foremost musicians and artists, having taken part in the premiere of hundreds of new musical works, sound and art installations, operas, musicals, and theater productions.
Co-founded with long-time collaborator and mezzo-soprano Leslie Ann Leytham, Project [BLANK] produces a series of concerts that aim to challenge and inspire audiences with unusual blends of live performance and visual arts.
